    The Program

    Mercy Corps' Ukraine response seeks to meet the needs of vulnerable Ukrainians and war-affected people where they are: in Ukraine, Poland, and Moldova. Through partnerships with local civil society organizations, we aim to reach 500,000 vulnerable people with multi-purpose cash assistance, resilience programming, agricultural programming, and other humanitarian support, and protection services across the three countries.

    The Operations Department provides key support to the entire country program in procurement, asset management, warehouse management, fleet management and facilities & office management for successful program implementation.

    The Position (General Position Summary)

    The driver will provide safe transport services for Mercy Corps staff in the described area of responsibility. The driver will adhere to all country-specific traffic regulations and Mercy Corps safety rules and follow the Field Fleet Management Policy.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Operate Mercy Corps office vehicles in the above locations or other routes/locations as assigned by supervisor;
    • Fill in and maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with Field Fleet Management Policy;
    • Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely — report needs and problems to Operations Manager/ Coordinator at the location;
    • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor;
    • Responsible for the safekeeping of the vehicle’s equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc.
    • Keep all vehicles ready, clean and on standby — ready for use at all times;
    • Collect and submit vehicle related receipts to the Operations Manager/Coordinator at the location;
    • Assist Operations Manager/ Coordinator at the location in preparing vehicle-related reports where necessary;
    • Ensure security measures for vehicles such as parking, storage of keys, emergency supplies, etc.
    • Ensure that security incident reports are completed and filed (if related to vehicles);
    • Ensure that accident reports are completed and filed;
    • Assist with logistics functions in office daily workloads;
    • Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to Operations Manager/ Coordinator on a regular basis;
    • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in country of operation;
    • Work with a positive, proactive attitude and demonstrate respect for all colleagues;
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

    Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work.     Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

    • Minimum 5 years experience as a driver, including vehicles with manual transmission in cities and highways.
    • Valid driver’s license and experience in driving 4×4 vehicles, passenger and cargo vans.
    • Must respect and adhere to all safety and traffic rules applicable in Ukraine and other countries during visits thereto.
    • Fluency in Ukrainian, Russian, pre-intermediate knowledge of English, along with good writing and verbal skills are required to be able to compose the documentation.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Knowledge of routes, duty stations, project areas.
    • Experience at NGO and diplomatic community is an asset.

    Success Factors

    The successful Driver will assist fleet and transport tasks in delivering successful programs while demonstrating excellent stewardship of donor funds and compliance with Mercy Corps and donor regulations. They will maintain strong cooperative relationships with other departments and interact effectively with international and national personnel both in a managerial and training capacity while demonstrating the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities. The most successful Mercy Corps staff members have a solid commitment to teamwork and accountability, thrive in evolving and changing environments and make effective written and verbal communication a priority in all situations.
