Title: Logistics Manager for the Ukraine Harvest Activity
Location: Kyiv, Ukraine (on-site)

J.E. Austin Associates, Inc (JAA) is a subcontractor to Chemonics International in the Ukraine Harvest Activity, an initiative funded by USAID to boost the agricultural productivity and market accessibility of Ukrainian farmers. This project focuses on enhancing the supply of high-quality inputs, agronomic support, and extension services, while also working to establish robust market linkages, particularly with the EU.
JAA supports the Objective 2 of the project aimed to improve farmers' access to profitable markets. This is achieved through strengthening the market position of small and medium enterprise (SME) farmers, reducing logistics costs via digitalization and optimized strategies, and expanding business-to-business (B2B) connections through industry events, trade missions, and buyer visits. This comprehensive approach is designed to increase production, access to diverse markets, and profitability for Ukrainian farmers, contributing significantly to the region’s food security and economic resilience.
Job Description and Overall Responsibilities:
The Logistics Manager at the Ukraine Harvest Activity will ensure that the process of agricultural products from field to market is streamlined and efficient. This role demands a deep dive into the details of logistics management. The position requires strategic planning, acute analysis, and operational excellence to create robust and responsive logistics framework to Ukraine’s current context. Responsibilities range from the overview of acquisition and storage processes to the assessment of transportation and distribution of goods. the Logistics Manager is essential in developing a supply chain that meets the dynamic needs of producers, suppliers, and intermediaries.
In this roles capacity, the Logistics Manager will lead efforts to evaluate and optimize the existing supply networks, innovating processes that significantly enhance the flow of agricultural goods to markets. They will tackle infrastructural challenges, applying their expertise to ensure that products are delivered in an effective manner. Engagement with key logistical stakeholders is important; through leveraging resources and generating collaborative partnerships, the Logistics Manager will amplify the project’s capacity to improve logistical operations specifically tackling barriers and supply chain disruption because of war.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designing logistics strategies that align with overarching project objectives while ensuring sustainability and efficiency.
- Leading the evaluation and mitigation of risks within the supply chain to ensure continuity and resilience against disruptions.
- Implementing logistics solutions to track and manage the flow of goods, optimizing every step from farm to consumer.
- Coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure that logistics considerations are integrated with the overall project goals.
- Developing contingency plans to manage risks associated with transportation and supply chain disruptions.
- Ensuring compliance with local, national, and international regulations governing agricultural logistics and transport.
- Reporting on logistics performance metrics, driving continuous improvement and strategic decision-making.
Job Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably within the agricultural sector.
- Solid background in managing agricultural value chains with a focus on efficiency and sustainability.
- Experience in collaborating with farmers' associations and understanding the logistical challenges specific to the agriculture industry.
- Excellent understanding of current situation supply chain situation in Ukraine
- Excellent English and Ukrainian writing skills
